ABOUT THE HOSPITAL
TLM Kolkata Hospital was established in the year 1986.
This hospital was started by Rev. Premananda Ananth Nath Sen as a treatment centre for leprosy patients on a corner of a Christian cemetery in Kolkata. The Oxford Mission which ran the clinic after the death of Rev. Sen handed over the clinic to The Leprosy Mission Trust India which had started a leprosy control unit in Kolkata in 1980, working from rented premises. The present hospital building was built in 1986. It is recognised as a referral hospital for leprosy-related complications by the government, private medical practitioners, and other NGOs.
The facilities provided by the hospital include out-patient and in-patient services, operating theatre, laboratory service, ECG service, X-ray services, counselling, physiotherapy, pharmacy, MCR protective footwear and artificial limbs.

Inpatient Care
The hospital has a 30-bedded (20 for leprosy and 10 for general) inpatient wing and provides the best inpatient facility with 24-hour nursing care and latest equipment.
- 817 patients admitted, of which 49% were leprosy patients.
- 11,073 beds were utilised, of which 92.4% were for leprosy.
Surgery
- 211 rehabilitation surgeries done.
- 394 eye surgeries, including 387 cataract surgeries done.
- 396 general surgeries done.
Support services (lab tests; X-ray, ECG, counselling)
- 4,727 lab tests, including 238 skin smear examinations and 4,489 other tests done.
- 0 X-ray imaging and 464 ECG done.
- 1,558 patients counselled.
Prevention of impairment and disability (POID) in leprosy
The hospital provides patient education, physiotherapy, prefabricated splints, MCR protective footwear, etc. to leprosy patients to prevent impairment and disability.
- 38 leprosy patients diagnosed with reaction/neuritis given inpatient treatment.
- 233 leprosy patients admitted for ulcer management, and 121 ulcer debridement procedures done.
- 3,738 pairs of MCR protective footwear manufactured and supplied to hospital patients and government/others.
Community Outreach
The hospital has a community outreach programme in schools and tribal villages. This is done through networking with the government and other NGOs. The hospital supports people affected by leprosy and members of marginalised communities and tribal’s in accessing government social welfare schemes for education, economic development, healthcare, housing, insurance, livelihood pension, etc.
A total of 9,760 patients were seen through hospital outreach activities.
