ABOUT THE VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE

TLM Vizianagaram Vocational Training Centre was established in the year 1995.

The king of Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, gave a piece of land on perpetual lease to Ms Flora Clarke, a Canadian missionary, for leprosy work, in the year 1915. She started a leprosy home there in 1920. The Mission to Lepers (now, The Leprosy Mission Trust India) was involved with the leprosy home since its early days. In the 1960s the home was upgraded to a full-fledged hospital. A school for children affected by leprosy was started in the 1980s to enable them to continue their studies as they were under treatment. And in 1995, a vocational training centre was started to give young boys and girls affected by leprosy/disability vocational employment skills so that they could earn their living.
