All TLMTI hospitals provide eye care for the ocular complications of leprosy. This involves diagnosing and managing the ocular complications of leprosy to prevent visual loss. Self-care of the eyes is taught to people with eyes at risk.

Six TLMTI hospitals (TLM Salur Hospital, Andhra Pradesh; TLM Shahdara Hospital, Delhi; TLM Kothara Hospital, Maharashtra; TLM Faizabad Hospital, Uttar Pradesh; TLM Kolkata Hospital and TLM Purulia Hospital, West Bengal) provide secondary-level ophthalmology services with outreach services in the community. Their outreach services promote healthy eyes through raising the awareness of ’eye-health’ and preventable and treatable eye conditions. They also promote sight restoration through glasses, cataract surgery, and other interventions.

Up-to-date facilities to manage refractive errors, cataracts and other eye problems are available in these hospitals. Annually, they account for over 34,000 consultations. More than 6,800 refractive errors are managed and more than 2,600 cataract surgeries are performed every year in these hospitals.
