ABOUT THE VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE

TLM Nashik Vocational Training Centre was established in the year 1979.

Ms Rosalie Harvey, daughter of a priest in Seaford, East Sussex, England, who came to India at the age of 28, started her work in Nashik, Maharashtra, in 1882. She was influenced by her father, who gave her a ring which had Dum spiro spero engraved on it (Dum spiro spero in Latin means ‘while I breathe, I hope’). She wore the ring all the time, and it reminded her to work to bring hope in seemingly hopeless conditions. In Nashik, she started a veterinary hospital, and then established an orphanage. Later, in 1898, she started a home for leprosy patients.

Eventually, the Mission to Lepers (now, The Leprosy Mission Trust India) took over the leprosy home.

When the cure for leprosy was discovered, people affected by the disease who were living on the campus completed their treatment and returned home. But the realisation that the leprosy-cured young boys and girls do not have the skills to earn a sustainable living impelled TLMTI to provide them job-oriented technical skills, and in 1979 it started the vocational training centre for that.
