A long-standing partnership – TLMTI provides specialised leprosy care in a health camp organised by the district administration of Viluppuram, Tamil Nadu

The Leprosy Mission Trust India’s (TLMTI) Vadathorasalur Hospital and Inclusive Empowerment Project (IEP) in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, provided specialised leprosy services in a health camp organised by Dr Santhosh Kumar, Block Medical Officer, Thiyagadurugam block, in TLM Vadathorasalur campus, on October 23. The camp was inaugurated by Dr Sudhakar, Deputy Director, Tuberculosis division.

On October 16, the Deputy Director, Leprosy (DDL), Nagai district, Tamil Nadu, organised a prevention of impairment and disability (POID) camp for leprosy patients, at Sirkazhi government hospital. As requested by the DDL, The Leprosy Mission Trust India’s (TLMTI) mobile therapy unit team, under the leadership of Mr Manivannan attended the camp and supported the government health officials with their disability prevention expertise.

A frontline soldier’s story: How Rajkumar leads the fight against social exclusion of people affected by leprosy

The sparkle of steely determination that shone in Rajkumar’s eyes was convincing enough for The Leprosy Mission Trust India’s SOAR (Securing Opportunities towards Advancing Revenue) project team to propose his name as one of the members of the board of directors of a milk producer company that the project was facilitating. Rajkumar was no different from the other board members – he was also affected by leprosy.

A double whammy and double strength to overcome them

The question haunted them many days badgering their every waking hour. “Why us, why us,” they asked themselves a thousand times!
The Leprosy Mission Trust India’s PARTI (Partnerships, Advocacy, Research and Training towards Inclusion) project staff had done a good deal of leprosy awareness programmes in Vadakkupalayam village in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu. After this, the project set up an information centre and an early intervention centre in the village to help people get timely help when they confront leprosy.

Disposal of waste has a huge environmental impact and can cause serious problems. Battling waste is now a priority across the globe.

The Leprosy Mission Trust India’s vocational training centre (VTC) in Vadathorasalur, Tamil Nadu had a large quantity of scrap produced in the campus and from the degrading infrastructure. It was a big challenge for the VTC to dispose of the scrap.
