Championing a cause long-forgotten

The Leprosy Mission Trust India (TLMTI) has so far developed over 420 Champions (persons affected by leprosy) from across the country. They are in the forefront in the fight against leprosy. They are a ‘movement’ – a movement to eradicate leprosy from India (which has 60% of the global leprosy caseload), end leprosy stigma, promote social inclusion of people affected by leprosy, and get laws discriminating against people affected by leprosy repealed (there are 119 such laws).

Moulding children affected by leprosy into leaders

The Leprosy Mission Trust India’s (TLMTI) Children Unite for Action (CUFA) project conducted a training workshop for children affected by leprosy supported by the project with education scholarship, in New Delhi, on November 29-30, to mould them into leaders.
A total of 33 children and 10 community volunteers from Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and West Bengal took part in the workshop.

National meet: #ChampionsForZeroLeprosy

The Leprosy Mission Trust India (TLMTI), over the last few years, developed over 240 Champions (persons affected by leprosy) who have overcome the challenges of leprosy to champion the cause of people affected by leprosy, from across the country. TLMTI, through its CREATE project, organised a 2-day national meet of the Champions in New Delhi, from November 27-28, 2018.

An initiative to provide quality and equitable care to patients with disabilities

The University of Chicago Medicine; Bucksbaum Institute for Clinical Excellence; and Medical Humanities Group, University College of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi – a US-India collaboration (http://bit.ly/2PIbH0Z) – jointly organised a Focus Group Discussion (FGD), with the theme, ‘No one left behind’, with disability rights activists, doctors with disabilities, and health profession educators, as part of its agenda, Disability-Inclusive Compassionate Care: Core Competencies on Disability for Health Professions Education, at the University of Chicago Center in New Delhi, on November 21.

Wellesley Bailey Award: Meet the overcomers who are the recipients of the award this year

At the Wellesley Bailey Award Gala Night, held in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia, on Friday, September 21, 2018, two remarkable persons affected by leprosy – Kofi Nyarko, from Ghana and Birke Nigatu Teka, from Ethiopia – were presented with the ninth Wellesley Bailey Award.
