TLMTI bags the ‘Special Recognition Award’ given by India Health & Wellness Summit and Awards

We are excited to inform you that The Leprosy Mission Trust India (TLMTI) has received the ‘Special Recognition Award’ given by India Health & Wellness Summit and Awards in recognition of TLMTI’s efforts in raising awareness about leprosy and eradicating the disease, and the impact TLMTI has made in these areas.

Championing a cause long-forgotten

The Leprosy Mission Trust India (TLMTI) has so far developed over 420 Champions (persons affected by leprosy) from across the country. They are in the forefront in the fight against leprosy. They are a ‘movement’ – a movement to eradicate leprosy from India (which has 60% of the global leprosy caseload), end leprosy stigma, promote social inclusion of people affected by leprosy, and get laws discriminating against people affected by leprosy repealed (there are 119 such laws).

Capacity building in leprosy for laboratory technicians working in Delhi government hospitals

The Leprosy Mission Trust India’s Shahdara Hospital, in New Delhi, conducted a one-day training workshop in leprosy for laboratory technicians working in Delhi government hospitals, on November 29.
Dr C. M. Agrawal, Leprosy Consultant, World Health Organization (WHO) and former Deputy Director General (Leprosy) of the Govt of India inaugurated the workshop which was attended by 42 laboratory technicians from various Delhi government-run hospitals.

An initiative to provide quality and equitable care to patients with disabilities

The University of Chicago Medicine; Bucksbaum Institute for Clinical Excellence; and Medical Humanities Group, University College of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi – a US-India collaboration (http://bit.ly/2PIbH0Z) – jointly organised a Focus Group Discussion (FGD), with the theme, ‘No one left behind’, with disability rights activists, doctors with disabilities, and health profession educators, as part of its agenda, Disability-Inclusive Compassionate Care: Core Competencies on Disability for Health Professions Education, at the University of Chicago Center in New Delhi, on November 21.

Young ‘parliamentarians’ celebrate Children’s Day

Various hospitals, vocational training centres, and community empowerment projects of The Leprosy Mission Trust India celebrated Children’s Day on November 14, in a big way.
