In-depth training in detecting new cases of leprosy
CUDDALORE (TAMIL NADU): The Leprosy Mission Trust India’s SOAR project (Securing Opportunities towards Advancing Revenue) has recently organised a five-day training workshop, in partnership with the Government of India’s National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP), on leprosy, for Anganwadi teachers, Primary Health Centre (PHC) nurses and nursing students, with the aim of equipping them for early detection of leprosy, in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu.
Apart from classroom learning, the participants – 115 Anganwadi teachers, 35 PHC nurses and 15 nursing students – were given practical training in detecting leprosy cases, by conducting door-to-door survey (active search) in Kumartchi and Kattumannarkoil blocks of Cuddalore district.
The workshop revolved around Sapna, NLEP’s leprosy awareness campaign mascot.
