Efforts to empower women, initiatives to promote sustainable livelihood

The Leprosy Mission Trust India’s PARTI project (Partnerships, Advocacy, Research and Training towards Inclusion), has successfully completed a 3-month training course in cutting and tailoring for women affected by leprosy/with disabilities, in Alambadi, in Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu.

In a function held on 16th March, 20 such women who have completed the course were given course completion certificates.

The training was co-conducted by TLM Vadathorasalur Vocational Training Centre, under its community-based vocational training programme. Alambadi Panchayat has provided a room, free of charge, for conducting the training and the project hired an instructor from the community.

The project is planning to set up a garment manufacturing unit under the self-help group being formed for these women. The Government of Tamil Nadu has promised to provide them sewing machines free of cost and also place orders for school uniform and uniform for government employees.
