NEW DELHI: It’s a heartening development that the Supreme Court has taken up the issue of bringing in a positive law (an affirmative action law) that recognises the rights of people affected by leprosy and promotes their social inclusion.

The culture of excluding people affected by leprosy from the mainstream society should stop. It’s not permissible under the law.

Let’s hope that the affirmative action law will demolish the stigma associated with leprosy and restore the dignity of people affected by the disease.
