A day when persons affected by leprosy walked around like others – with dignity

Many persons affected by leprosy living in Tahirpur leprosy colonies in Shahdara, New Delhi, will cherish the memories forever!

Today (March 14), 45 of them got an opportunity to visit two landmark tourist places in Delhi – Lotus Temple (a Bahá’í House of Worship) and Lodhi Gardens (a city park spread over 90 acres having architectural works of the 15th century).

For many of them, this was their first trip outside their colony. With wide-eyed bliss, they enjoyed the marvellous sights. But more than the sightseeing opportunity, what delighted them was that they were able to break the chains of leprosy stigma and walk around like others – with dignity, and feel one with the beauty around them.

The trip was arranged by Community Intervention Unit (CIU) of The Leprosy Mission Trust India’s Shahdara Hospital, in New Delhi.
